What is Asthma Camp?

Asthma Camp program is designed to provide children who have moderate to severe asthma, with the opportunity to enjoy a camping experience while learning how to manage and cope with their asthma.

Who May Attend?

Asthma Camp is open to boys and girls (9-14 years of age) who live in Los Angeles County and who have been diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma. ?Parents are required to attend a pre-camp meeting.

Who Provides Medical Supervision?

Barlow Respiratory Hospital will provide physicians, registered nurses and other allied health-care professionals. ?Available 24 hours, the professional staff will carry out the orders of the child's personal physician and assist in the supervision of camp activities.

About the Camp Program

Asthma Camp offers a variety of fun activities such as: swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, archery, camp olympics, riflery, movies, talent night and dances. ?In addition to these activities, educational programs have been designed to help the children understand their asthma, recognize what triggers asthma and learn how to prevent and control asthmatic episodes.

Where is Camp Held?

The 22nd Annual Asthma Camp will be held at the Big Bear Conference Center on Metcalf Bay, at the south end of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernadino National Forest. ?The campsite is a modern camp facility accredited by the American Camping Associatio, and is staffed by trained counselors and water safety instructors.

What are the Costs?

There are no costs to campers this year! ?The 22nd Annual Asthma Camp, presented by the American Lung Association of Los Angeles County and Barlow Respiratory Hospital, will cover the entire camp fee. ?Bus transportation is provided between the Lung Association's office and the camp. ?Corporate sponsorships and individual donations of money and services are always welcome.
