KICK BUTTS targets both middle and high school students in areas that might include: Watts-Willowbrook, Huntington Beach, Pomona, Long Beach, Santa Monica, East Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley and the Mid-Wilshire/Hollywood area. Family members, community activists, and friends can all join KICK BUTTS to become a stronger voice in their schools and communities.

Teens that are involved in KICK BUTTS learn to be advocates, are empowered to make decisions as well as learn about the marketing techniques that the tobacco companies use to lure teenagers into smoking.

KICK BUTTS teaches teens the skills needed to rid their community of tobacco sponsored events, and to increase the number of events being promoted as "smoke-free."

You can make a difference! Young people across the nation are getting involved and sending out the message that smoking ISN'T cool. Each day, 3,000 kids become regular smokers, and one-third of them will eventually die from smoking-related diseases. Tobacco companies persist in relentlessly pursuing innocent youngsters with the goal of getting them hooked. KICK BUTTS -Youth Advocacy Program of the American Lung Association of Los Angeles County, provides teenagers the opportunity to fight back, expose the lies of the tobacco industry, and be advocates in their schools and communities.

KICK BUTTS members get involved in selected activities ranging from letter writing campaigns to holding a press conference.

The goal of KICK BUTTS is to reduce the number of tobacco-sponsored events, increase the number of events actively promoted as "smoke-free," and encourage people not to start or to quit using tobacco products.
