Clean Air

Despite years of effort and major improvements, air pollution still clogs our nation's skies. Millions of tons of harmful gases and particles are released into the air each year. Los Angeles County consistently has some of the worst air in the nation, and the highest number of emergency room visits caused by smog and air pollution.

Air pollution hurts the body both by directly inflaming and destroying lung tissue and by weakening the lung's defenses. The lungs have ways of protecting us from breathing dust, pollen and germs, but air pollution puts an additional stress on the body's defenses. In fact some pollution, classified as Particulate Matter (PM10-2.5) is so small that it bypasses the lung's defenses all together.

Discover the many ways we can all clean the air and breathe easier.
